International Workshops

Bio Design: Learning from natural systems, environment and efficiency (June 6 to July 24, 2016)

Explore the biology paradigm applied to design in consistency with the environment, from architecture to product design, systems and mechanisms. Knowledge and skills developed incorporate design, biology, technology and communication.

Application Requirements:

Letter of motivation and intention.

Advanced design students in architecture, industrial design, product design, interior space design, fashion design,
industrial engineering, mechatronics and/or sustainability.

Duration

3 weeks / 90 hours
6 credits.

Post-Carbon Urbanism: Sustainable environmental toolkit for designers (July 4 to July 23, 2016)

Develop a critical understanding of the factors present in the current city impairment affecting the urban environment and its high dependence on external resources. Analytical tools, project methodologies to design and evaluate alternative scenarios of adaptation to the post-carbon era; in which a radical decrease of the energy generated from fossil fuels is predicted, will complement this topic.

Application Requirements:

Letter of motivation and intention.
Advanced design students (architecture, industrial design, engineering, sustainability and/or management)

Duration

3 weeks / 60 hours
6 credits.

Sustainable Emergency Shelters (July 4 to July 23, 2016)

Explore innovative sustainable solutions for emergency shelters demand. Promote and implement efficiency not only in the field of design and deployment, but also in the areas of self-sufficient clean energy technology and universally accessibility.

Application Requirements:

Advanced design students in architecture, industrial design, product design, interior space design, communication, sngineering and/or sustainability.

Duration

3 weeks / 90 hours
6 credits.

Expression and communication (January 6 to January 22, 2016)

Develop communication and design skills to present ideas accurately in terms of visual representation, story telling, expression and media diffusion tools.

Application requirements

Letter of motivation and intention.

Students in architecture, industrial design, product design, interior space design and/or fashion design.

Duration

2 weeks / 60 hours

HCD: Social Construction Workshop: Community Support Spaces (January 6 to January 22, 2016)

An intervention built to scale 1: 1 to serve as a support space for the Tayutic indigenous community located in Grano de Oro, Turrialba. The project will consider the community; with a dynamic participatory design in order to be user-centric. The design comes from the community’s initiative and will serve as a meeting point to promote the social construction of housing and community empowerment.

Application Requirements:

Advanced design students in architecture, industrial design, product design, interior space design, graphic design, communication, engineering and/or sustainability.

Duration

3 weeks / 90 hours
6 credits
